Vehicles and Driver / Escorts

The Vehicles

Our vehicles are:

  • customised to provide maximum accessibility and safety;
  • fitted with lifts or ramps and accessible low steps;
  • fitted with seatbelts throughout, and wheelchairs are secured using the most up-to-date safety equipment;
  • different sizes to make all of Bristol accessible;
  • chosen/adapted in accordance with passenger requests;
  • in radio contact with the office at all times;
  • checked everyday (50 separate safety checks), and serviced regularly;
  • fitted out with first aid kits and fire extinguishers.

LPG Vehicles

A number of our vehicles run on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). This type of fuel has been shown during the 2003 European Emissions Testing Programme to produce less CO2, NOx and fine particle emissions than petrol and diesel.

Driver/escorts

All of our drivers are Mini Bus Driver Awareness Scheme (MIDAS) trained, and have additional ongoing equipment training. As well as driving, they act as Escorts helping passengers on and off the vehicles and making sure passengers are wearing seatbelts and that wheelchairs are completely secure. They also collect the fares.
